A new chapter in racing begins for two young men from Beauharnois. Francis Sauvé and Renaud Simard are proud to announce the purchase of Stéphanie Blain’s former hydroplane, which they will race under the banner of their newly formed team, Formax Racing, in the popular 2.5-litre class.
Thehydroplane, which will carry the number S-817, is a tribute to their early days of ice racing: 8 was Renaud’s number, and 17 was Francis’. This is a dream come true for Francis, who has wanted his own boat since he was just two years old.
Painted in Formax’s signature white, red, and black, the boat is set to debutin the 2025 season. The two drivers share a clear goal: to adapt, learn, and grow—one race at a time. There’s no pressure to perform this year; the focus is on enjoying the experience and preparing for the future.
Francis and Renaud will alternate at the helm, with plans to race at the same eventsearly in the season to lift their rookie restrictions as quickly as possible. They hope to begin testing in April at Pont Larocque, as they prepare for the first event of the season in Cambridge.
This is a family-driven project, deeply rooted in passion and supported by their ongoing involvement with the Pro-Hydro V-109 team, led by Dominic Maisonneuve .Dominic will serve as their coach in this new chapter. Both drivers will remain active members of the V-109 team, continuing to learn while building their identity as Formax Racing.
The boat will be powered by a Ford engine, and the coming weeks promise to be intense, with capsule testing planned for April and many late nights spent working on the boat.
Formax Racing hits the circuit with passion, humility, and determination. The community is invited to follow their journey this season as they look ahead to a promising future.
