Régates internationales de Sorel-Tracy : Mother Nature is the ultimate winner

- – 5 June 2023
The organizers of the Sorel-Tracy International Regatta, in close collaboration with the Hydroplane Racing League (HRL), unfortunately had to make the difficult decision to cancel the event scheduled for June 3rd and 4th. This official announcement was made yesterday, around 11 a.m. Unfavorable weather conditions, characterized by strong winds sweeping the region, made it impossible to hold the highly anticipated hydroplane races.
The magnificent site prepared by an extraordinary team was ready to welcome the HRL racing teams and enthusiastic spectators. However, despite all efforts made, unfavorable weather conditions made this decision inevitable. Hydroplanes are lightweight and fast racing boats, specifically designed to maximize their speed and performance on the water. However, due to their aerodynamic design and lightweight nature, strong winds can have a significant impact on their stability and maneuverability. In the presence of strong winds, the risks of capsizing or accidents increase significantly, endangering the safety of the pilots and the public. Therefore, to prevent any potential risks and ensure the safety of all participants, it is necessary to postpone or cancel hydroplane races when weather conditions are unfavorable with strong winds.
“We are deeply disappointed to have to cancel the event due to the weather conditions. The safety of our participants and spectators is our top priority, and we cannot compromise on that. However, we are actively working with the organizing committee to find a rescheduling solution to offer hydroplane racing enthusiasts a memorable experience later this summer. We encourage you to stay tuned for further updates, and we thank you for your continued support.” – Didier Bernard Séguin, HRL Commissioner.
If there are no changes to the racing schedule, the next stage for the participants will be the Brockville event, scheduled for July 1st and 2nd. The HRL and the racing teams remain committed to their shared passion for hydroplane regattas and will continue to work towards providing exciting and safe events for all fans of this sport.
