Patrick Haworth returns to full-time competition for his 30th year

A name synonymous with success in the world of hydroplane racing, veteran driver Patrick Haworth returns to pilot Bruno Lepage’s H-924 Game On in the Hydro 350 class for the 2025 Hydroplane Racing League season. 2025 will mark the 30th full-time campaign for one of the winningest drivers in the history of the sport.

Running his first races on a part-time basis in the 1992 campaign, Patrick saw immediate success driving the iconic CS-1 Export “A” Inc. hull ownedby his uncle, Russell Haworth. Multiple championships and wins at the Régates de Valleyfield followed before his move to the 5 liter class with the CE-5 ITECH boat. Haworth piloted both of those boats to “perfect seasons,” winning every race he ran in 1995 and 1997, respectively.

For Patrick and his late father Warren, who acted as his crew chief, the winningnever stopped. He’s driven 26 different boats in his career, accumulating 126 career wins, with 10 of them coming on the Baie St. Francois in Valleyfield. 3 US National Championships and 9 Canadian Championships, including one in the HRL GP series in 2013 driving his GP-57 “Why?”, make Haworth one of the most decorated drivers to ever hit the water.. In 2019, Patrick madehis H1 Unlimited Debut, running several test sessions and a heat race in San Diego for Dave Bartush’s U-7 Spirit of Detroit team.

When asked about his favorite moments over his illustrious career, Haworth said, “Winning the GP Championship waspretty special. It was winning a championship with perseverance and a limited budget but we still won 2 races and finished all of our heats that year.. Getting qualified and racing in Unlimited was pretty special too; reaching the pinnacle of all classes and being one of the rare Canadians to have reached it.”

Patrick joined the Game On team before the 2024 “1000 Islands Regatta” in Brockville last season as a substitute for the injured Bert Henderson. The team made major strides last year during their debut season, improving both speed and consistency throughout the summer, culminating in a victory at the final event of the season in Beauharnois, QC. The crew recently took delivery of a brand new Henderson Hydroplane to pair with the H-924, proving the Game On squad to be a team committed to becoming a powerhouse in the HRL series.

For 2025, Patrick and the teamlook to enter the season without any expectations. “I think that we were fast at the end of the yearand we know we’ll be competitive but the Hydro350 class is so unpredictable. With assigned lanes and such a tight field, you need a bit of luck to win, too, ”said Haworth. “But, we’ve made a few changes that hopefully haveimproved the boat, so we’re hoping to be faster this year, but we know everybody else has worked on their boats and the competition will be extremely strong!”
