Winners in Every Class Despite Final Heats Being Canceled
Â
Despite an abrupt end due to severe thunderstorms, the racing portion of the 85th edition of the Régates de Valleyfield delivered a weekend full of action and emotion for the 75,000 spectators in attendance. Nearly 70 races were held under the Hydroplane Racing League (HRL), allowing champions to be crowned in each class.
Â
The only official final heat completed before the program was interrupted took place Sunday morning in the Novice class. Zack Parent (N80 – Wild Thing), from Saint-Zotique, delivered an outstanding performance just days before his 14th birthday. Surrounded by his visibly emotional parents, he had just enough time to thank his team before a violent storm hit the site, forcing the cancellation of the remaining final heats.
Â
In accordance with HRL regulations, champions were determined based on the total weekend points. And the performances delivered throughout the qualifying rounds provided fans with an exciting show, even though winners couldn’t be crowned in the prestigious final heats.
Â
An incident occurred Saturday in the Jersey Speed Skiff class, involving the JSS-721 boat driven by Dallas Truelove and Corey Bradley. Bradley was transportedto the hospital with shoulder and back pain. As a precaution, he remains hospitalized to confirm no serious injuries were sustained. The organization and HRL wish him a swift recovery.
