HRL and Cambridge Organizers Reach Agreement to Ensure Event Sustainability

In a collaborative effort to secure the future of the Cambridge event, the Hydroplane Racing League (HRL) and its organizers have reached an agreement to adjust the race format. As part of this decision, the Grand Prix class will not be included in this year’s official program. This adjustment allows Cambridge to continue hosting a strong and competitive event while maintaining the high standards that fans have come to expect.

However, Grand Prix teams will still have an opportunity to hit the water in Cambridge, as they are invited to conduct testing sessions on the racecourse during the event weekend. This will provide valuable track time and preparation ahead of the season’s first official Grand Prix race.

To ensure a complete season for the Grand Prix class, HRL has finalized an agreement with Guntersville Lake Hydrofest (June 6–8), which will now serve as the first Grand Prix event of the season.

GP Challenge: A thrilling three-stop series

The GP Challenge can bring up to 20 Grand Prix hydroplanes to battle it out in three major events:

Guntersville, Alabama – June 6-8

Madison, Indiana – July 4-6

Valleyfield, Québec – July 11-13

Guntersville added to the HRL Championship schedule for the Grand Prix Class

A major addition this season is that points earned by teams during the Guntersville weekend will now count toward the GP Challenge, the GPA championship, and the HRL championship. This alignment ensures that teams remain fully engaged throughout the season and allows them to compete for multiple prestigious titles.

While adjustments like these are never easy, this decision ensures the long-term viability of the Cambridge event while reinforcing HRL’s commitment to providing a full and competitive season for Grand Prix teams. Fans eager to witness the first Grand Prix action of 2025 can get their tickets for Guntersville Lake Hydrofest now.

We appreciate the continued support of our teams, partners, and fans as we work together to keep hydroplane racing strong for years to come.
