Passion runs deep in the Léger family, passing proudly from one generation to the next. The Hydroplane Racing League (HRL) is proud to announce that 19-year-old Benjamin Léger will make his debut in the 2.5-Litre class for the 2026 season.
Son of well-known driver Yannick Léger, who competed in boththe Hydro 350 and Grand Prix classes, Benjamin has literally grown up in the pits. Since 2008, he has accompanied his family to races, and by 2010, he was already part of the Supernova adventure, becoming an active member of the team.
Now,it’shisturnto carry the Supernova legacy forward, as his boat willproudlysport the number 21, a symbol of family continuityandheritage.“This boat representsmuch more thanaracing machine. It’s a family story, a passion we’ve shared forever,” Benjamin said. “It’s a dream come true.. I’mlucky to be learning from the best, with my family by my side.”
Before taking the wheel himself, the young driver honed his skills as part of Rémi Beauvilain’s team, where he contributed to mechanical work and performance setups, a formative experience that gave him a deep understanding of the sport’s technical aspects.
“Benjamin approaches every step with humility and determination. He wants to learn, one race at a time,” said his father,Yannick Léger, who will remain involved with the team. Therole of crew chiefwill be taken onby Vincent Léger,Benjamin’sbrother, while his motherIsabellewill handle radio communications, a touching nod tothe past, asshe onceheldthe same rolefor her husband.
The boat, previously owned by Matthieu Brown, was carefully repaired by the HRL following the accident during the last race in Beauharnois. Benjamin has since taken ownership and is ready to write the next chapter of the Supernova story.
The Léger team is now gearing up for what promises to be an exciting and inspiring debut season.
