H-15 Water Ghost
Engine: 350 Chevrolet
A native of Melocheville, Jonathan Daoust has been passionate about Regattas since he was 5 years old. He missed only 1 year because his mother had punished him by preventing him from attending the Regates de Valleyfield. It was the worst punishment he could have gotten!
His racing history began in May 2016, two weeks before the start of the races, when he was offered to buy Sylvain Campeau’s boat. The H15 (formerly H20) is a legend, a powerful machine and a winning boat. With the help and support of his wife Stephanie, he decided to go ahead and live his dream. Without any experience he managed to forge his place among the best and he surprised more than one in his rookie year.
Like many drivers, Jonathan has rituals before every race. He always has in his right pocket a rock with a four-leaf clover and a medallion with an angel on his suit. Before boarding his boat he needs to be alone for 10 minutes to prepare himself mentally then he kisses his wife and off he goes!
At the Régates de Valleyfield on Sunday once his restrictions were over he won the consolation final which allowed him to have a place in the final. This race will remain in his memory forever because he never thought that one day he would run alongside Mike Monahan.
The H15 team is tightly woven. It’s an adventure he wanted to live with his family and close friends. Even the children participate in the preparation of the boat. The team often meets to work on the boat, discuss strategy, and put everything in place to be ready for the new season.
Some modifications were made starting with the new engine by Yves Primeau of Primeau Performances who prepares the engine as of last year. With this new collaborator Daoust put all the chances on his side to be a champion!
Always looking for that adrenaline rush Jonathan Daoust has now realized his biggest dream of driving a hydroplane. Named rookie of the year in 2016 and 4th in the championship in 2018, he does not intend to back off the gas in 2019!
