Do you have any hydroplane racing experience?
I have been racing outboard hydroplanes for 22 years, but it has been in my blood forever. Both of my parents come from families that raced outboard boats, so it was inevitable that I ended up racing. I love racing regardless of the class, size or category.
What brought you to love this sport, what is your motivation ?
I love to compete, and this series provides a great opportunity to race against some of the best drivers on the continent. I grew up around the boat races and I’ve always looked up to the great drivers that came before me, and I hope I can someday motivate some of the young fans we have around our sport to get involved and race in the future.
How was your performance in 2018? What were your strong and weak points?
In all honesty it was an average season with some highs and lows. We started the season out with our old hull and after 2 race weekends, switched to a brand new Henderson hull. It has taken some time to get it dialed in and set up correctly, but we learned a lot through out the season.
Are there any changes to your boat or your team?
This will be the first season running our new Henderson hull from start to finish, we made some minor changes to the boat to improve performance, so we will see if those have an impact. We also added Paul barber to the HMS(Hearn Motorsports) team driving the H-52, so it will be exciting fielding two boats in the very competitive H350 class.
Do you have any rituals just before the race?
With how hectic the race day can be, we are usually just making sure that the hull, engine and hardware is all set up properly. Our team is headed into our 4th season now, and we are working hard on eliminating the small mistakes and equipment problems that have caused us problems in the past.
What are your goals for the 2019 season?
We want to win the H350 Championship. We have shown the ability to race with the very best H350s in North America, and we started working towards this goal since the end of last season. The field is extremely competitive and it won’t be easy, but we wouldn’t be racing if that wasn’t our goal!
