Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, February 20, 2019. – The Hydroplane Racing League (HRL) officially announces the cancellation of the weekend race in Gananoque, Ontario, normally scheduled for June 1st and 2nd.

The reasons for the cancellation

The organizing committee of the Nickel Cup Regatta has decided to cancel the hydroplane races for the reasons mentioned below.

First, new installations will be put in place early this summer at the Gananoque Marina, including the installation of a new launching ramp. This ramp will be installed in the heart of the pits. In addition, the space required for the installation of the latter will move the docks further from the shore which will make it more complex, or impossible for crane operators to do their work.

In addition, several requests for financial assistance have been sent to the various government authorities but no precise answers have been received to date. Unfortunately, this means that the Nickel Cup organization does not have all the funds required to hold an HRL event.

“Obviously we are disappointed that we can not include the Gananoque event on our 2019 HRL circuit for a fourth consecutive year. However, we are very much aware of the issues that this experienced organizing committee is facing and we hope to work with them in 2020 “said the Commissioner of the of Hydroplane Racing League, Mr. Didier-Bernard Séguin.

The Hydroplane Racing League – HRL’s mission is to develop, organize and present hydroplane races in North America and aims to be the premier Hydroplane Racing League in the world.
